Nice Sunset

The killer heat wave is finally gone. I got up early and turned off the a/c. A nice cool breeze from the north felt wonderful. Of course it was cloudy and ugly most of the day but I can live with it ... sure beats the hell outta 120 heat index!!

Cute Hummer

Lots of little hummers around today. This male ruby spent the whole day chasing off every hummer that tried to get on his feeder!

One more little Hummie

I posted this shot on WU and naturally they cut it down so small you couldn't even see it. I did NOT post a photo as large as this one but a tad bigger than what they put up on the site. Sometimes I hate that place .... it may be my last post on WU.

Anyway, she sure is a pretty little thing, don't ya think?

Female Ruby

Isn't she a little cutie with her tongue sticking out!!! The hummers are truly my favorite little birds. I could sit and watch them all day.

HOT DAMN

"Extreme heat and humidity will result in heat indices ranging from 105 to 115 each afternoon from Thursday through Monday. The worst conditions are expected on Sunday with heat indices over 110 for much of the region."

Just one of the many joys of living in So. IL in the summer!!! I hate this place .... if I were a rich person, I would move to Alaska today!

I am not getting out of my house for the next 5 days ... only to take Albie out to potty and he better make sure he does his thing in a matter of minutes! The heat index is 105 now and he doesn't want to go outside at all ... I have to drag him out the front door.. ha

There will be NO pictures posted on this blog for several days. Unless I dig up some old ones. No way am I going outside to take any shots of anything!

Little Umbrellas

Some little "shrooms" in my yard early this morning. They are now gone after the sun was shining on them for an hour.

Geranium

The old crappy geranium keeps on blooming but it is very scraggly (is that a word?)looking and terribly ugly!

Rain Drop

Just a tiny drop of rain on a blade of grass. I really really really need that Macro Lens ........

"HOT" Rose .....

Those nasty little Japanese Beetles! We don't need anymore of these things flying around. At least they are not as thick as they were last year. They totally demolished all plant life around here in 2004.

A new SIGMA Lens and rainy weather!!

I ordered this lens from 17th Street Photo and received it last week. Haven't had a chance to even check it out since it has done nothing but RAIN every day! I have taken a few shots with it and it appears to be somewhat sharper than the kit lens (18-55mm) that came with the Rebel. I will probably use this lens most of the time since it is not quite as heavy as the 70-300mm. I really really really want a Macro lens .... the SIGMA 150mm f/2.8 EX APO Macro HSM. Oh well, it is on my "wish list" for a future purchase ... that would be far far far into the future! haha If anyone wants to donate this lens to me, feel free to do so!! I don't get paid for taking photos .. I'm not a Pro so therefore I never sit around daydreaming of owning any Canon L glass. Unless you are a Pro, that would be a total waste of money IMO. I only dream of owing the SIGMA 300-800mm f/5.6 APO EX DG HSM ... and that is all I will ever do is "dream" about it since it is $5400.

Took some shots of little Albie yesterday..

He really needs a haircut!!!

He finally got tired of the flash going off in his face so he jumped up in his chair and buried his nose in the corner of it ... then he peeked at me to see if I was still holding the camera. haha

WOW GOOGLE EARTH!!!!!!

This thing is addicting .... I can't quit using it. It is way too cool. Google is simply the BEST.... and they just keep getting better.

This is for broadband connections only and you should have a rather up-to-date computer to run the application. I think the program uses approx. 200MB's of space on your pc.

Give it a spin ... the world is at your fingertips!

GOOGLE EARTH

White Butterfly ... several shots of the same one. These don't usually stay in one place for over a second or two but this one liked the small white flower.

Yummy ... A Peanut for Me!

He kept watching me, so I finally threw a peanut on the sidewalk .... didn't take him long to scoop it up. I nearly missed the shot! ha

Cardinal

A little female sitting in the tree waiting for me to move so she can grab a peanut.

Sun Tea

My "hillbilly" neighbors making silly sun tea. I don't like tea period!

Lunch Time

Some type of insect dining on a very tiny bee. I sat there and watched him for awhile and then decided to see if I could get a shot of him. Not too good but I liked the shadows on the glass.

Red Eyes

Just a little fly with big red eyes!

Soybean Flower

This is a tiny tiny flower on a soybean plant. Even tho there is corn in the field this year, this soybean still came up ... a left over from last years crop.

A quick drive through Burrell's Woods today. It is always dark in this place so the shots are not that good. Besides that I took the wrong lens with me.

The squirrels are always cute

...

I've never seen any ducks in the "woods" before....

.....

the flowers are looking a little "ratty".. haha

ShutterFreak Photo

I still don't know what is wrong with this poor little male cardinal. He is so pathetic looking. When I put out peanuts, he is the first one to come over and get some of them.

Nothing wrong with this pretty little female.
